The Richard G. Lugar Center
for Tomorrow's Leaders serves as a permanent home for the annual Lugar Symposium for Tomorrow's Leaders and provides extended experiences for high school and college students that expose them to leadership opportunities, the value of leadership in service to others, issues of ethics and integrity in leadership, and the qualities of strong leaders. Building on the university's core values, the center is designed to reinforce the value of a liberal arts education in preparing young people to be tomorrow's leaders.
The University of Indianapolis has enjoyed a lengthy association with Indiana Senator Richard G. Lugar. A Distinguished Trustee of the institution who served on the board from 1970 to 2002, the Senator holds an honorary UIndy degree as well. In addition to launching the Symposium that bears his name, he served a stint on the University's faculty, having taught political science as a visiting professor between his last term as mayor of Indianapolis and his first as a senator. Long recognized as a global leader and a true statesman in an era when such a distinction is increasingly rare, Senator Lugar has remained focused on the need to prepare today's youth to become tomorrow's leaders.
